Marc Heflin Named Arkansas Business 40 under 40

Friday, October 15, 2010
From Arkansas Business- 2005 Marc Heflin's family raised him to be in the service industry. It's our belief that that's what we're supposed to do with our God-given resources, said the 31-year-old Heflin. And giving back has been stressed to us growing up and in our adult life. In 2001, Heflin joined older brother Jay and three others to found Bird & Bear Medical Inc. of Little Rock, a provider of home medical equipment and respiratory therapy. Bird & Bear now has nine branch offices and about 75 employees. Heflin attributed the success of the company to hard work and good hires. In high school, Heflin started working at his father's Terminix business. He worked for Terminix full-time from his graduation in 1995 from Ouachita Baptist University at Arkadelphia until his family sold it in 1999. Heflin felt comfortable owning a slice of Bird & Bear Medical. Anytime you can help people and make a living, that's a good thing, he said. He is chairman of the board of Arkansans for Drug Free Youth, a director of the Westside YMCA and a Sunday school teacher at Second Baptist Church in Little Rock. He said he follows what his parents taught him: It's not about what you get, it's what you give.
